Twelve thousand four hundred fifty-nine new Corona infections were reported in Austria on Friday, fewer new infections than last Friday. The number of Corona patients in hospitals has also decreased.
On Friday, 12,459 new infections were reported by AGES, compared to 15,099 on the same day a week ago.
12,459 new Corona infections in Austria, hospital cases down
As of Friday morning, 2,538 people were hospitalized. One hundred twenty-one people were cared for in intensive care units. This number fell by four since yesterday but has increased by 23 patients within a week. There were also 17 deaths.
Over 140,000 active Corona cases in Austria
As of Thursday, there were thus 141,744 active cases in Austria, up by 4,202 from the previous day. Within the past 24 hours, 8,278 were considered recovered on Thursday.
Vienna at the bottom of the seven-day incidence table
The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Upper Austria, with 1190.9, followed by Carinthia, Tyrol, and Salzburg (1118.6, 1094.9, and 1088.1, respectively). Lower Austria (1047.6), Burgenland (1038.3), Styria (1006.7), Vienna (873.1), and Vorarlberg (826.6) follow further.
The adequate reproduction number decreased slightly again compared to the previous week (1.19). However, it was still just above the critical one at 1.04 (Oct. 12), according to the update from experts at the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) and Graz University of Technology. In each case, the R-number refers to the previous 13 epidemic days. The R-number tells how many more people an infected person will infect.
Less than 60 percent validly vaccinated against Corona
Five million two hundred fifty-four thousand two hundred forty-six people, or 58.2 percent of Austrians, have been validly immunized as the National Immunization Panel (NIG) recommended. A total of 908,695 people have received a booster vaccination to date.
